New Ford F-150 to be Made of Aluminum?

The Ford Motor Company has announced that the new Ford F-150 will feature an aluminum body, as opposed to the steel body of old.

The change to aluminum is being done in response to tougher federal fuel economy targets.  In 2011, the Obama administration was able to pass new fuel-economy regulations that require every U.S. vehicle fleet to average 54.5 mpg by 2025.

The switch to aluminum will cut the F-150’s weight by roughly 700 pounds, which is a 15 percent decrease in overall weight.  Not only will the initial weight reduction increase mpg, but it will also open the door so that Ford is able to outfit the F-150 with smaller, more fuel efficient engines.

“Aluminum is certainly a big opportunity for weight reduction,” said Raj Nair, the global chief of product development. “We have been public that weight reduction is going to be a big part of our strategy.”

Ford Designs One-of-a-Kind Mustang for the Cattle Baron’s Ball

The Cattle Baron’s Ball, a popular Detroit-area charity gala that raises money for the American Cancer Society, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year with a special guest star: a customized 2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca.  The wildly designed Mustang will be auctioned off, with proceeds going towards the battle against cancer.

The Candy Red Mustang will have a one-of-a-kind paint scheme. The goal of the unique design is to attract the highest bids from car collectors, which will ultimately raise the most money for the American Cancer Society in Detroit.

The Cattle Baron’s Ball is one of the most distinctive charity events, with guests enjoying a western-themed event with Texas-style cuisine, entertainment, dancing, and both a silent and high-end live auction.  At this year’s event, Ford will also be sponsoring a private, unplugged performance from Toby Keith.

The 10th Anniversary Cattle Baron’s Ball and the Mustang auction will take place September 29.  Those not able to attend the event will still have a chance to bid on the unique Mustang, according to Jill Rafferty, director, Distinguished Events, American Cancer Society. She stated that “Because of the significant value of the one-of-a-kind 2013 Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca, there will be an opportunity for call-in bids during the live auction.” For more information about bidding via phone, you can call Rafferty at 248-663-3450.
